Youth MOVE Arkansas is a youth-led organization devoted to improving services and supports provided to children and youth in the State of Arkansas. Partnering with youth, adults, professionals and others, this organization helps transform Arkansas' youth-serving systems state-wide.

Members share their experiences as consumers of youth services from various systems such as child welfare, mental health and juvenile justice as well as public and private agencies in Arkansas, actively participating in the redevelopment of those systems designed to serve young Arkansans.

Youth MOVE Arkansas Members & Paul

Recently, Paul had the privilege to present both a morning and afternoon session during their conference held at Arkansas State University. Returning from the event, Paul noted the following: "I thoroughly enjoyed working with the dedicated parents, professionals and young people participating in the 2nd Annual YMA Youth Empowerment Conference. Presenting "A Hero Within" to these outstanding individuals has been an awesome experience. To my friends at Youth MOVE Arkansas, keep empowering youth to become successful in life!"

While students enjoyed a summer vacation, educators across the nation rested, reflected and recharged in anticipation of the new school year and the tremendous promise it holds.

As is typical of these dedicated professionals in the Natural State, many hours were spent sharpening the edges of their knowledge.

In keeping with their collective desire to evaluate ways to give students a greater advantage, Paul recently had the pleasure of working with school districts around Arkansas sharing information and inspiration on subjects such as parental involvement, character development, communication skills and leadership.

"It was a distinct privilege to address the various staffs, faculties and administrations of Arkansas Schools these past few weeks," Paul said. "Having the opportunity to deliver a message that supports these educators' mantra of 'doing whatever it takes to go from good to great,' was an honor. To the individuals who continue answering the call of providing quality education, I commend you and wish you well!"

Know Your Nation

New York

The Hudson River in New York state was first explored by Henry Hudson in 1609. The Dutch settled there permanently in 1624 and for 40 years they ruled over the colony of New Netherland. Conquered by the English in 1664, the area was then named New York in honor of the Duke of York.

Existing as a colony of Great Britain for over a century, New York declared its independence on July 9, 1776, becoming one of the original 13 states of the Federal Union. On April 20, 1777, New York's first constitution was adopted.

Facts worth noting:

• New York City became the first capital of the new nation, where President George Washington was inaugurated on April 30, 1789.

• Located in New York harbor, the Statue of Liberty was formally presented to the U.S. Minister to France on July 4, 1884. The cornerstone was laid in August and the Statue of Liberty arrived in June 1885, in 214 packing crates. It was dedicated by President Grover Cleveland on October 28, 1886, when the last rivet was put into place.

Remembering the Fallen

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum’s mission is to:

• Remember and honor the thousands of innocent men, women, and children murdered by terrorists in the horrific attacks of February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001

• Respect this place made sacred through tragic loss

• Recognize the endurance of those who survived, the courage of those who risked their lives to save others, and the compassion of all who supported us in our darkest hours

A Hero Within—Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders was established in 2004 to provide today's youth with the opportunities needed to take longer strides in learning, life and legacy. This program impacts our youth by providing the many tools necessary to help shape their lives in the most positive manner, while challenging these future leaders to genuinely answer the question, "How do I choose to live my life?"

Today’s youth are tasked with leading our nation into the future. At the same time, they’re increasingly confronted with difficult issues such as suicide, drug and alcohol addiction, pregnancy, peer pressure, obesity, depression, cyber bullying and domestic violence. These future leaders are in search of a message of affirmation and hope, and a program to provide each of them with the mechanism to choose a path that will positively define their life’s legacy.

The opportunities for a constructive all-around outreach provided by this unique program can reverse the trend of growing statistics. The current numbers are alarming: 7,000 students each school day or 1.2 million each year drop out of school; 60% of identified bullies have a criminal conviction by age 24; and according to the American Psychiatric Association, suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people ages 15 to 24. Simply stated, more teenagers are dying from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke and chronic lung disease combined.

To answer the need for a course of life-skills strength training, Paul Vitale developed this unique program as a life strategy for students to continue to grow and improve personally, emotionally and intellectually. Anchored by four mutually supporting facets, the strategy set forth not only champions the positive growth of our future generation of leaders, A Hero Within—Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders also encourages today’s youth to answer this one incredibly important question: “How do I choose to live my life?”
