UNSUNG HEROES

Providing care for others is a vocation answered by many in all facets of life. Paul recently had the opportunity to work with a number of these “unsung heroes” in the areas of health and personal care.

Consultants in Healthcare was founded in 1997 by Pam Hooper and her partner, Mary Hill, as a consulting company designed to provide development and management services for inpatient and outpatient surgical services. With a staff of six, Consultants in Healthcare manages four outpatient surgery centers comprised of 350 employees and 120 physician partners in Little Rock and the surrounding area.

With an eye on administration specifically targeted to seniors, the White River Area Agency on Aging, Inc., headquartered in Batesville, Arkansas, is a non-profit organization embracing the privilege of serving older adults in 10 counties throughout North Central Arkansas. In existence for more than 30 years, WRAAA’s core mission is to administer grant funds covering services such as meal programs, transportation, socialization, health and wellness, and family caregiver services. In addition to these primary services, WRAAA offers assistance with in-home care, housing, employment, Medicare education, and foster grandparenting in an effort to better serve a growing and diverse population.

In keeping with assuring the health and well-being of others, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences constantly strives to offer the best in medical care to its patients. Through a patient- and family-centered approach, UAMS offers care that is grounded in mutually beneficial partnerships among providers, patients, and families. Paul recently had the pleasure of presenting “Inspired Teamwork & Leadership” to administration, staff, and volunteers working in collaboration to advance their health care model.

University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences CEO Dr. Roxane Townsend & Paul

“Having the privilege of working with the unsung heroes of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the White River Area Agency on Aging, and Consultants in Healthcare has presented me with an insight into the challenges faced by those relying on others for their care,” declared Paul. “Thank you to these phenomenal individuals for the impact made on those they serve!”

“Returning to St. Louis to address the participants of the 2014 St. Louis Metro Football Coaches Association 7-on-7 Tournament was terrific! After watching the tournament from start to finish, I was extremely impressed with the effort given by all teams involved. Congratulations to each of the 20+ teams that participated, and a special ‘Thank you!’ to Kyle Eversgerd and the St. Louis Rams organization for inviting me back!” - Paul

BRILLIANCE IN BUYING

With over 850 members worldwide, the Independent Jewelers Organization has become the largest buying group in the world. Priding itself as an organization focused on continuing education for its members in both gemology and industry trends, IJO Members consistently meet the high standards required by the organization for excellence, service, and integrity.

“It was an honor presenting, ‘It’s Your Life, Dominate It’ and ‘Sell With Confidence’ to the members of IJO,” Paul said after the kick-off of IJO’s conference in Boston. “What an outstanding group of professionals, eager to learn and actively participate. Thank you to the leadership of IJO for allowing me to return. It is always a privilege working with you and I hope to have the opportunity to cross paths again soon!”

MEETING THE CHALLENGE

With more than 40,000 members, the Healthcare Financial Management Association is the nation’s premier membership organization for healthcare finance leaders. HFMA builds and supports coalitions with other healthcare associations and industry groups to achieve consensus on solutions for the challenges the U.S. healthcare system faces today. Working with a broad cross-section of stakeholders, HFMA identifies gaps throughout the healthcare delivery system and bridges them through the establishment and sharing of knowledge and best practices. HFMA’s mission is to lead the financial management of health care.

“I recently had the honor of working with HFMA-Arkansas,” said Paul. “It was truly my privilege to exchange knowledge, enthusiasm, and energy, all while learning how astute these individuals are in meeting the challenges of healthcare financial management. Congratulations for exceeding your goals!”

CARRYING THE TORCH FOR ETHICS

In a world where consumers are concerned about being treated fairly, the Better Business Bureau of Arkansas is working hard to honor local businesses that promote a trusting, ethical relationship with their customers. The Arkansas BBB recently presented the 2014 Torch Awards for Ethics at the Governors Mansion to deserving businesses in the Natural State.

After presenting the awards luncheon keynote, Paul had this to say: Hats off to all of the finalists, and a special congratulations to this years winners: ARVEST Bank, Little Rock; Bud Anderson Heating and Cooling, Lowell; Window Mart, Royal; and Main Street Service Center, Harrison. Thank you for carrying the torch of business excellence!”

Monitoring the Maze of Technology

Throughout history, various types of revolutions have defined the formation and growth of generations upon generations. Today’s society has instant, world-wide access through a variety of media advances that are easily accessible and generally affordable. Cellular telephones, video games, televisions, computers, and personal handheld electronic devices have transformed the way our world communicates. It is safe to say, our youth today are riding the wave of a global technology revolution.

Simply defined, a revolution is a fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time; the results of which include major changes in culture, economy, and socio-political institutions. Although the telephone took 20 years to reach 50 million users, the Web took only four years, iPods three and MySpace two, while YouTube hit 50 million users in one year! How can this be? more...

Speak positively. Choose compliments or silence over complaints and criticism.

Problems are often nothing more than opportunities in work clothes.

Possessing the ability to bend with the wind makes difficult times more manageable.

Regardless of the magnitude of the mountain, the scars that are acquired from the battle serve as a reminder of your level of fortitude!

The level of empathy that you have for others is increased exponentially after you yourself have walked through the valleys and seen the shadows.

An abundance of opportunity accompanies every sunrise and sheds hope for each of us to see.
